Endgame Strategies 1 |
| Book 3: Endgame
Strategies (for anyone who plays
chess – all ages)
Many beginning chess players do not know the patterns and techniques for finishing the game when most of the pieces are traded or captured. All too often one accepts a draw or stalemates when a win was possible because of lack of knowledge of this important element of chess. Endgame Strategies 1 teaches how to play the endgame and win. The student will learn how to checkmate and avoid stalemate with clear lessons illustrated with a board showing each move, and reinforced with puzzles and problems to solve. It prepares players for the most common endgames of chess including back rank mates, pawn promotion using the concept of “opposition”, and mates with King and minor pieces to assist. Why draw when you can win? Endgame Strategies 1 teaches endgame language: “walk your Rooks,” “stay in the square,” use the waiting move,” “cut off the board,” “win with the ‘opposition.’” The workbook can stand by itself, but many students benefit from the video with Coach Steve Schneider. In it Coach Steve presents step-by-step demonstrations of key endgame elements in easy-to-learn systems. Using the video together with the workbook’s directed practice and challenging puzzles, you can master this important stage of the game. |
