Educator Stephen A. Schneider, the director of Championship Chess®, has developed successful methods and materials for teaching chess to children and is the author of The Scholastic Chess Series.

Schneider began working with children and chess in 1974. At that time in Goergia, there were no more than 3 tournaments opened to scholastic players per year. Now, there are often more than 3 scholastic tournaments per week.

Student discusses moveOver the 25 years that he has worked with children and chess, he has developed a system that works well to train players. To encourage more young players, he started after-school chess leagues and team tournaments. Today there are thousands of scholastic players and hundreds of events for them to play in across the state. Coach Steve is currently developing a network of Affiliate instructors in cities across America to further his vision of providing strong chess programs for children across the country.

 


The Scholastic Chess Series includes Chess Basics, Chess Openings I, Endgames Strategies I, Chess Tactics I and a chess readiness activity book, Color My Chess World, that introduces pre-chess activities to very young children.
